When Envy and Drugs Meet with Superstition: Death Results. (The Story of the University of Jos Student that Killed his Friend on Friday Night 24/10/2025) Nanpon Timmap David of the Department of Banking and Finance (400 Level) and Peter Matta Mafuyai of the Faculty of Agriculture (300 Level) had been friends for a while and enjoyed playing football and Snooker and other extra-curricular activities together. In addition to all these, they were talented singers who enjoyed music beyond the ordinary. They often went together to the studio for recordings and night outs and will return back together to their residence at Rusau village village near the UniJos Village Hostel where many other students stay off-campus, laughing and smiling together happily. All these changed on the night of Friday 24th October, 2025 when after a recording session at a studio the two friends along with others returned back to their residence. Nanpon Timmap David (From Lantang in Plateau State) invited Peter Matta Mafuyai (from Bokkos in Plateau State) into his room supposedly for a discussion as they both lived in different rooms. Neighbours saw Nanpon come out to get a machete and returned inside his room and the next thing were screams coming from the room as Nanpon began to cut his friend Peter while shouting, as reported by an eye witness, “you are using jazz on me, you have tied my leg…you are stopping my progress…I am going to kill you…” The neighbours tried to intervene to stop Nanpon from cutting his friend Peter to death but Nanpon had turned vicious like a rabid dog attempting to attack the neighbours if they tried to stop him. The confrontation was so violent that the neighbours had to run out to attempt to get further help from other friends and law enforcement agents. During this interval, Nanpon finished killing his friend Peter and buried him in a new uncompleted soakaway that the landlord was still digging. By the time the neighbours arrived with help, it was too late and Nanpon had completed his barbaric act and had escaped from the compound after locking the gate and his room. The law enforcement agents after scaling the fence into the premises searched every where to no avail for Nanpon or his victim Peter until in their wisdom and experience they sighted the uncompleted soakaway and decided to dig it out only to find the corpse of Peter Matta Mafuyai buried inside the shallow grave. A manhunt by the vigilante led to the capture of Nanpon Timmap David who was found with substances suspected to be drugs on him. Earlier on Friday 24th October, 2025 evening a witness had sighted Nanpon smoking what he believed was cigarette before their recoding session. Young people must learn that drugs kill, so avoid drugs by all means and please seek for help and rehabilitation because you may not be able to stop on your own. The superstitious believe that other people are the cause of your mediocrity or failure in life is a lame excuse not to take responsibility for your wrong decisions in life. Your decision determines your destination in life. Stop blaming village people and others when things are not working well for me. Take your destiny in your hands and work diligently to ensure you succeed in life. Life is not a bed of roses and as you lay your bed so you will lie on it. Diligence is the key to greatness. Proverbs 22:29 says “Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men”.  Success is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration declares Thomas Edison. I encourage you to perspire to acquire what you require in life and in case you do not acquire don’t retire, refire.
